Afghanistan: Medal of Honor Recipients

U.S. forces deployed to Afghanistan after the September 11, 2001 attacks and remained for nearly two decades. Medals of Honor from the war recognize actions in remote mountain outposts such as COP Keating and in the Korengal and Kunar valleys, as well as special operations raids.

In 2010 Staff Sergeant Salvatore Giunta became the first living recipient since the Vietnam War.
