Private Nicholas Foran was a soldier in the U.S. Army who received the Medal of Honor for his actions between August 22 and October 19, 1868 vicinity of the Black Mountains, Arizona during the Indian Campaigns. At the time he was serving with Company L, 8th U.S. Cavalry. Foran was 24 years old.
11 other service members also received the Medal of Honor for actions on the same day. The medal was presented on July 24, 1869. He later rose to the rank of Sergeant.
Foran was born on June 3, 1844 in County Waterford, Ireland — one of 258 recipients born in Ireland. His Medal of Honor is credited to St. Louis, St. Louis County, Missouri. Foran died on September 29, 1927 in Prescott, Arizona, at the age of 83. He is buried at Prescott National Cemetery in Prescott, Arizona.

Sergeant Nicholas Samuel "Sam" Foran (June 3, 1844 – September 29, 1927) was an American soldier in the U.S. Army who served with the 8th U.S. Cavalry during the Apache Wars. He was one of thirty-four men who received the Medal of Honor for gallantry in several engagements against the Apache Indians in the Arizona Territory from August to October 1868.
