Landsman Joseph Killackey was a sailor in the U.S. Navy who received the Medal of Honor for his actions between June 20 and 22, 1900 in China during the Boxer Rebellion. At the time he was serving with U.S.S. Newark. Killackey was 21 years old.
27 other service members also received the Medal of Honor for actions on the same day. He later rose to the rank of Gunner's Mate Third Class.
Killackey was born on January 21, 1879 in County Cork, Ireland — one of 258 recipients born in Ireland. His Medal of Honor is credited to Pennsylvania. Killackey died on September 8, 1946, at the age of 67. He is buried at Mount Moriah VA plot in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
