Private Clarence Edward Mathias was a Marine in the U.S. Marine Corps who received the Medal of Honor for his actions on July 13, 1900 in Tientsin, China during the Boxer Rebellion. At the time he was serving with U.S.S. Solace. Mathias was 23 years old.
7 other service members also received the Medal of Honor for actions on the same day. He later rose to the rank of Sergeant Major.
Mathias was born on December 12, 1876 in Royalton, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. His Medal of Honor is credited to Pennsylvania. Mathias died on December 9, 1935, at the age of 58. He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.
