Sergeant George Krause Kitchen, a soldier in the U.S. Army, received the Medal of Honor for gallantry on September 9, 1874 at Upper Wichita River, Texas during the Indian Campaigns. At the time he was serving with Company H, 6th U.S. Cavalry. Kitchen was 29 years old.
11 other service members also received the Medal of Honor for actions on the same day. The medal was presented on April 23, 1875. He later rose to the rank of First Sergeant.
Kitchen was born on October 5, 1844 in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania. His Medal of Honor is credited to Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. Kitchen died on November 22, 1922 in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 78. He is buried at St. Mary's Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
