Sergeant Edward P. Grimes was a soldier in the U.S. Army who received the Medal of Honor for his actions between September 29 and October 5, 1879 at Milk River, Colorado during the Indian Campaigns. At the time he was serving with Company F, 5th U.S. Cavalry. Grimes was 31 years old.
8 other service members also received the Medal of Honor for actions on the same day. The medal was presented on January 27, 1880. He later rose to the rank of First Sergeant.
Grimes was born on May 18, 1848 in Dover, Strafford County, New Hampshire. His Medal of Honor is credited to Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts. Grimes died on June 17, 1913, at the age of 65. He is buried at Cypress Hills National Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York.
