Corporal Hampton Mitchell Roach was a soldier in the U.S. Army who received the Medal of Honor for his actions on September 29, 1879 at Milk River, Colorado during the Indian Campaigns. At the time he was serving with Company F, 5th U.S. Cavalry. Roach was about 25 years old.
8 other service members also received the Medal of Honor for actions on the same day. The medal was presented on January 27, 1880. He later rose to the rank of Second Lieutenant.
Roach was born in 1854 in Concord, Louisiana. His Medal of Honor is credited to Fort Dodge, Ford County, Kansas. Roach died on January 24, 1923, at the age of about 69. He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.
Roach is one of 426 Medal of Honor recipients from the Indian Campaigns and one of 31 credited to Kansas.
