Musician John McLennon was a soldier in the U.S. Army who received the Medal of Honor for his actions on August 9, 1877 in Big Hole, Montana during the Indian Campaigns. At the time he was serving with Company A, 7th U.S. Infantry. McLennon was about 22 years old.

McLennon was born in 1855 in Fort Belknap, Young County, Texas. His Medal of Honor is credited to Fort Ellis, Gallatin County, Montana. McLennon died on May 14, 1888 in Rock Springs, Wyoming, at the age of about 33. He is buried at City Cemetery in Rock Springs, Wyoming.
