Corporal George Miller, a soldier in the U.S. Army, received the Medal of Honor for gallantry on October 21, 1876 at Cedar Creek, etc., Montana during the Indian Campaigns. At the time he was serving with Company H, 5th U.S. Infantry. Miller was about 25 years old.
29 other service members also received the Medal of Honor for actions on the same day. The medal was presented on July 18, 1877 — at parade at the Cantonment at the Yellowstone and Tongue Rivers, Montana Territory, by Gen. William T. Sherman.
Miller was born in 1851 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. His Medal of Honor is credited to Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts. Miller died on June 10, 1888 in Sheridan, Kansas, at the age of about 37. He is buried at Red Top Cemetery in Quinter, Kansas.
Miller is one of 426 Medal of Honor recipients from the Indian Campaigns and one of 265 credited to Massachusetts.

Further research has shown that Miller's places and dates of action were: Cedar Creek, Montana, 21 October 1876; Redwater Creek, Montana, 18 December 1876; and Wolf Mountain, Montana, 8 January 1877.
