Serving as a soldier in the U.S. Army, Private Benoni Strivson received the Medal of Honor for his actions on August 13, 1868 vicinity of the Black Mountains, Arizona during the Indian Campaigns. At the time he was serving with Company B, 8th U.S. Cavalry. Strivson was about 37 years old.

Strivson was born in 1831 in Overton, Tennessee. His Medal of Honor is credited to Sacramento, Sacramento County, California. Strivson died on December 15, 1870 in Stockton, California, at the age of about 39. He is buried at Stockton Rural Cemetery in Stockton, California. Records also list him as Stinson, Benoni.
