Private James F. Adams was a soldier in the U.S. Army who received the Medal of Honor for his actions on November 12, 1864 in Nineveh, Virginia during the Civil War. At the time he was serving with Company D, 1st West Virginia Cavalry. Adams was 20 years old.
One other service member also received the Medal of Honor for actions on the same day. The medal was presented on November 26, 1864. He later rose to the rank of Corporal.
Adams was born on August 26, 1844 in Cabell County, West Virginia. His Medal of Honor is credited to Ceredo, Wayne County, West Virginia. Adams died on December 8, 1922 in Barboursville, West Virginia, at the age of 78. He is buried at Oaklawn Cemetery in Huntington, West Virginia.
Adams is one of 1,525 Medal of Honor recipients from the Civil War and one of 45 credited to West Virginia.
