Serving as a soldier in the U.S. Army, Sergeant Benjamin Brown received the Medal of Honor for his actions on May 11, 1889 in Arizona during the Indian Campaigns. At the time he was serving with Company C, 24th U.S. Infantry. Brown was about 30 years old.
One other service member also received the Medal of Honor for actions on the same day. The medal was presented on February 19, 1890.
Brown was born in 1859 in Spotsylvania, Spotsylvania County, Virginia. His Medal of Honor is credited to Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. Brown died on September 5, 1910 in Washington, District of Columbia, at the age of about 51. He is buried at Soldier's Home National Cemetery in Washington, District of Columbia.
Brown is one of 426 Medal of Honor recipients from the Indian Campaigns and one of 380 credited to Pennsylvania.

Benjamin Brown (1859 – September 5, 1910) was a Buffalo Soldier in the United States Army and a recipient of America's highest military decoration—the Medal of Honor—for his actions during the Wham Paymaster Robbery in the Indian Wars of the western United States.
