Sergeant "William" Alchesay, a soldier in the U.S. Army, received the Medal of Honor for gallantry in 1872 in Apache Campaigns during the Indian Campaigns. At the time he was serving with Indian Scouts. Alchesay was about 19 years old.
The medal was presented on April 12, 1875, 3 years after the action. Fort Apache, Arizona, presented by Gen. Crook.
Alchesay was born on May 17, 1853 in Arizona. His Medal of Honor is credited to Camp Verde, Yavapai County, Arizona. Alchesay died on August 6, 1928, at the age of 75. He is buried at Fort Apache Indian Reservation near Little Round Top Peak in White River, Arizona.
