Sergeant Thomas Boyne was a soldier in the U.S. Army who received the Medal of Honor for his actions on September 27, 1879 at Cuchillo Negro River & Mimbres Mountains, New Mexico during the Indian Campaigns. At the time he was serving with Company C, 9th U.S. Cavalry. Boyne was about 30 years old.
The medal was presented on January 6, 1882, 2 years after the action.
Boyne was born in 1849 in Prince George County, Maryland. His Medal of Honor is credited to Norfolk, Norfolk County, Virginia. Boyne died on April 21, 1896 in Washington, District of Columbia, at the age of about 47. He is buried at Soldiers Home National Cemetery in Washington, District of Columbia.
Boyne is one of 426 Medal of Honor recipients from the Indian Campaigns and one of 48 credited to Virginia.
