Captain Julien Edmund Gaujot, a soldier in the U.S. Army, received the Medal of Honor for gallantry on April 13, 1911 in Agua Prieta, Mexico during the 1914 Veracruz expedition. At the time he was serving with Troop K, 1st U.S. Cavalry. Gaujot was 36 years old.

The medal was presented on November 23, 1912 — the White House, presented by Pres. William H. Taft. He later rose to the rank of Colonel.

Gaujot was born on October 22, 1874 in Keweenaw County, Michigan. His Medal of Honor is credited to Williamson, Mingo County, West Virginia. Gaujot died on April 7, 1938, at the age of 63. He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.

Gaujot is one of 56 Medal of Honor recipients from the 1914 Veracruz expedition and one of 45 credited to West Virginia.

Crossed the field of fire to obtain the permission of the rebel commander to receive the surrender of the surrounded forces of Mexican Federals and escort such forces, together with five Americans held as prisoners, to the American line.

Biography

Julien Edmond Victor Gaujot (October 22, 1874 – April 7, 1938) was a United States Army Medal of Honor recipient. He was the brother of Antoine. The Gaujot brothers are one of the seven sets of brothers that received the Medal of Honor and the only pair to receive the Medal for actions in different military actions. Both brothers also attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
