Sergeant George W. Mears was a soldier in the U.S. Army who received the Medal of Honor for his actions on July 2, 1863 in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania during the Civil War. At the time he was serving with Company A, 6th Pennsylvania Reserves. Mears was 20 years old.
27 other service members also received the Medal of Honor for actions on the same day. The medal was presented on February 16, 1897, 33 years after the action.
Mears was born on January 3, 1843 in Bloomsburg, Columbia County, Pennsylvania. Mears died on November 24, 1921 in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, at the age of 78. He is buried at Old Rosemont Cemetery in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania.
