First Lieutenant George Evans Davis was a soldier in the U.S. Army who received the Medal of Honor for his actions on July 9, 1864 in Monocacy, Maryland during the Civil War. At the time he was serving with Company D, 10th Vermont Infantry. Davis was 24 years old.
One other service member also received the Medal of Honor for actions on the same day. The medal was presented on May 27, 1892, 27 years after the action. He later rose to the rank of Captain.
Davis was born on December 26, 1839 in Dunstable, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. His Medal of Honor is credited to Burlington, Chittenden County, Vermont. Davis died on June 28, 1926 in Bennington, Vermont, at the age of 86. He is buried at Lake View Cemetery in Burlington, Vermont.
Davis is one of 1,525 Medal of Honor recipients from the Civil War and one of 47 credited to Vermont.
