Sergeant Charles Oliver, a soldier in the U.S. Army, received the Medal of Honor for gallantry on March 25, 1865 in Petersburg, Virginia during the Civil War. At the time he was serving with Company M, 100th Pennsylvania Infantry. Oliver was about 25 years old.
11 other service members also received the Medal of Honor for actions on the same day. The medal was presented on July 3, 1865. He later rose to the rank of Brevet Captain.
Oliver was born in 1840 in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. His Medal of Honor is credited to Webster, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. Oliver died on August 30, 1920, at the age of about 80. He is buried at Richland Cemetery in Dravosburg, Pennsylvania.
