Artificer Sterling Archibald Galt was a soldier in the U.S. Army who received the Medal of Honor for his actions on November 9, 1899 in Bamban, Luzon, Philippine Islands during the Philippine Insurrection. At the time he was serving with Company F, 36th Infantry, U.S. Volunteers. Galt was about 33 years old.
One other service member also received the Medal of Honor for actions on the same day. The medal was presented on April 30, 1902, 2 years after the action. He later rose to the rank of Battalion Sergeant Major.
Galt was born in October 1866 in Taneytown, Carroll County, Maryland. Galt died on October 21, 1908 in Kansas City, Missouri, at the age of about 42. He is buried at Orient Cemetery in Harrisonville, Missouri.
Galt is one of 82 Medal of Honor recipients from the Philippine Insurrection and one of 85 credited to Maryland.
