Seaman Philip Moore was a sailor in the U.S. Navy who received the Medal of Honor for his actions on September 21, 1880 in Genoa, Italy — a peacetime act of courage recognized in the Interim 1871 - 1899 period. At the time he was serving with U.S.S. Trenton. Moore was about 27 years old.
One other service member also received the Medal of Honor for actions on the same day.
Moore was born in 1853 in Newfoundland, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada — one of 60 recipients born in Canada. His Medal of Honor is credited to Rhode Island. Moore died on September 16, 1902 in Boston, Massachusetts, at the age of about 49. He is buried at Mount Hope Cemetery in Malden, Massachusetts.
