One other service member also received the Medal of Honor for actions on the same day. The medal was presented on October 10, 1892, 28 years after the action.
Christiancy was born in 1844 in Monroe County, Michigan. Christiancy died on December 18, 1899 in Washington, District of Columbia, at the age of about 55. He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.
Christiancy is one of 1,525 Medal of Honor recipients from the Civil War and one of 112 credited to Michigan.
