Lieutenant Guy Wilkinson stuart Castle was a sailor in the U.S. Navy who received the Medal of Honor for his actions on April 21, 1914 in Vera Cruz, Mexico during the 1914 Veracruz expedition. Castle was 35 years old.
40 other service members also received the Medal of Honor for actions on the same day. He later rose to the rank of Commander.
Castle was born on February 8, 1879 in Portage, Columbia County, Wisconsin. Castle died on August 10, 1919 in Brest, France, at the age of 40. He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.
Castle is one of 56 Medal of Honor recipients from the 1914 Veracruz expedition.
Official Medal of Honor citation
For distinguished conduct in battle, engagements of Vera Cruz, 21- 22 April 1914. Eminent and conspicuous in command of his battalion, Lt. Castle was in the fighting of both days, and exhibited courage and skill in leading his men through action. In seizing the customhouse, he encountered for many hours the heaviest and most pernicious concealed fire of the entire day, but his courage and coolness under trying conditions were marked.
