Chief Carpenter's Mate Franz Anton Itrich was a sailor in the U.S. Navy who received the Medal of Honor for his actions on May 1, 1898 in Manila, Luzon, Philippine Islands during the Spanish-American War. At the time he was serving with U.S.S. Petrel. Itrich was 44 years old.
He later rose to the rank of Chief Gunner.
Itrich was born on November 26, 1853 in Gross Katz, Germany (Prussia) — one of 130 recipients born in Germany. His Medal of Honor is credited to California. Itrich died on June 11, 1933 in San Francisco, California, at the age of 79. He is buried at San Francisco National Cemetery in San Francisco, California.
