Captain Forrester Lore Taylor was a soldier in the U.S. Army who received the Medal of Honor for his actions on May 3, 1863 in Chancellorsville, Virginia during the Civil War. At the time he was serving with Company H, 23d New Jersey Infantry. Taylor was 29 years old.
29 other service members also received the Medal of Honor for actions on the same day. The medal was presented on November 2, 1896, 33 years after the action. He later rose to the rank of Brevet Major.
Taylor was born on October 30, 1833 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. His Medal of Honor is credited to Beverly, Burlington County, New Jersey. Taylor died on April 21, 1907 in Lawers, Virginia, at the age of 73. He is buried at Family Cemetery in Wards Road, Virginia.
Taylor is one of 1,525 Medal of Honor recipients from the Civil War and one of 93 credited to New Jersey.
